“ One of the biggest obstacles in learning to float is trying too hard to float. If you let go and trust the water, you will be surprised how water pushes you up. Sometimes you gotta let go to see great results” – ( Milan, the Swim Coach ) #sharewhatyouknow #classmonk #brampton #mississauga Swimtrack swim school www.swimtrack.ca Brampton, Ontario
Summer is around the corner and this summer is going to be your 30th summer. And still, you don’t know how to swim and are missing out on the amazing experience you can have in water.
Mr. A: Why haven’t you learned it yet? Is it because you are not trying hard enough? Maybe you lack motivation?
Mr. B: (Defending himself) “Not everybody’s Michael Phelps or Grant Hackett. Swimming does not come naturally to me. I have been jumping on my pool for years now. It’s not my fault that I haven’t learned how to swim
after jumping everyday in my pool for so long. If it takes another 30 years for me to learn how to swim. Then so be it.”
Mr. A: Okay. So it’s neither because you are not trying hard enough or because you lack motivation. I can clearly see how much effort you are putting in. Maybe try hiring a swimming instructor.
Mr. B: Don’t you think I have thought of that before you dingus!
Mr. B storms out of the pool with raging anger and Mr. A stifles his laughter and apologizes. After few hours, Mr.B, still angry, picks up the phone, skims his phone directory trying to find a swimming instructor and ends up putting down the phone
because he has no idea what or who he is looking for.
I know it’s a bit far-fetched and it doesn’t happen in real life. But like Mr. B, if you still don’t know how to swim when you are around 30, you really are missing out on some many amazing things that you could have
experienced only if you knew how to swim.
Like Mr. B says, nobody knows swimming naturally. Some may learn it on their own and some may not. So if the latter one sounds like you, then it’s a clear sign that you need to hire a swimming instructor.
Half your problem is solved because you realized that you need a swimming instructor. But there are lots of instructors out there and it’s not easy to pick the best one and you want to pick the best one because you don’t want to
spend your hard-earned money on someone who is not worth it.
While hiring a swimming instructor, you should be looking out for these qualities in them:
1. Experienced and certified swim Instructor
Experience and certification, I think, are attributes that complements each other. Both experience and certification make instructors better teachers and means that they have various insights into different ways of teaching.
Knowing about the number of years they have been working in this field, the number of people who have benefited from their service and in general their experience makes your decision-making whether or not the instructor is good enough for you so much easier.
There are many people out their who are certified swimming instructors but not everybody is a great teacher. Being certified only means you have the bookish knowledge and knowing theoretical things and applying the very
knowledge in way that students can understand and relate to are completely different things.
If you are hiring a swimming instructor for yourself (adult), the swimming instructor should teach and explain things in a way that you can easily understand and if you are hiring for your kids, then the swimming instructor should
teach and explain things in a way that kids are able to understand.
Also, not everybody has same problems. Everyone has their own set of problems and helping each students overcome their problems is what sets apart a good teacher from the not-so-good ones.
3. Classes for kids or Join with your kids for parents and tot program
Nobody likes a dull, boring and mundane instructor. Everybody wants their instructor to make the classes fun and interactive and in general make the learning process easier and especially in case of children because children
react more to fun learning methods.
Being fun does not mean being irresponsible. While making classes and learning fun, what if they mistakenly lets you or your children drown?
So a great swimming instructor should know how to make classes fun and yet be responsible.
Be it a swimming instructor or a tutor or a personal trainer or any kind of teacher, this is one of the must-have attribute in every teacher.
You teach the basics of swimming to the students and expect them to perfect the skill on their own overnight. That’s not what a great swimming instructor does.
To be good at swimming requires a lot a time and that needs patience in both the student and instructor. If you are a student and aren’t learning it as fast as others are learning it, then you don’t have to worry about it. You need
to be patient and practice a lot and a good instructor helps their students overcome the problems they are facing patiently.
Now you know what qualities to look for in a swimming instructor. But still you have to look for swimming instructors. So where do you look? Which is the best platform to search for swimming instructors?
